Yes, my baby, Alexa, is now swimming on her own. It may not be the prettiest and best looking stroke, but dog paddle with her head out of the water works for her, and she does it on her own with out her vest or my help. She also loves to float on her back and pretend to do a backstroke. Some of the lifeguards have been a little nervous watching her and thinking she is going to sink, but Alexa manages to get where she wants to go.
Alexa started this in Buffalo, probably seeing my cousin, Colleen's, 2 1/2 year old daughter, Erin, swimming on her own. Regardless, she starting jumping in and trying harder to swim without the vest. Once we got back to Alpharetta, she no longer wanted her vest, that is until she wore herself out swimming and jumping without it. Alexa also started jumping off the diving board last weekend and now wants to go off it all the time. Initially, we had to be in the water below to help her get to the side, but now she jumps and swims to the side by herself. I can't wait to find out what swim lessons will do for her next summer!
